BCC to impose new standards on construction after floods

It will come as no surprise to watchers of the Brisbane property development industry that the Brisbane City Council is looking to impose new conditions on the construction of multi-level buildings in flood affected suburbs.

One Certus Legal Group client has heard that such conditions will include:

  1. any basement parking structure below Q100 level to be watertight (tanked);
  2. all electrical / service rooms to be located above Q100 level;
  3. emergency stormwater pump system to be provided; and
  4. toilet and stormwater inlets in the basement level will require the ability to be sealed off in the event of flooding.

Whilst few could argue against these new conditions, they will impose additional costs upon developers.
