Wicked Campers hit with infringement notices
Recent news from the ACCC that Wicked Campers has been fined and served with infringement notices for advertising which was misleading offers a timely reminder to businesses with complex pricing models.
The ACCC issued the infringement notices after Wicked Campers placed promotions on its website and advertisements in a national backpacker magazine that failed to specify a single total price payable for the hire of campervans and also failed to adequately disclose certain mandatory fees and charges.
A fine of $26,400 was levied and paid, although it is noted that the payment of such a fine is not an admission by Wicked Campers of any contravention.
Nevertheless, the incident highlights the proactive nature of the ACCC’s consumer protection activities and the ease with which businesses can be caught out.
